Self Assigned with a Twist

Houselights - PK 20217

When I think of something that lurks through the shadows I think of something that you would find in a dark alley way in New York and hiding behind a tipped over trash can waiting for the curiosity of the man looking down the alley to take over, and when the man goes down the alley it strikes. Thats what sort of plays in my head when I think of "What lurks through the shadows". The image to the right is a perfect example of something that lurks through the shadows. I think when I see this image I feel like the woman with the blond hair is hugging just a normal girl but then when her back is turned she turns into the devil, poking its horns through the top of her head and cursing her pray.

Self Portraits

When I look at self portraits there are really 2 distinct types of self portraits that stick out to me. There is Traditional Portrait, where the photographer will take a picture of him/herself and they will make a pose and get all dressed up in costumes. Just like the photo above you see that she is making a pose and it is a normal self portrait. Then I also see work that has a deeper meaning than just taking a picture of yourself. There is more of a theme and a story behind it. The photographer really needs to be careful on how he/she poses because with a different pose can have a different affect on the audience. They also need to be really careful on the environment he/she is in. As you see the photo to the right he is posing in a blank hallway. So there are no distractions for the view to be distracted on the main purpose. It makes you focus in on the character in the photo. But also when you look at the picture you see the really nice texture of the wood floor, and beams. Also the lighting makes you focus in on the main subject. Since the lighting is pointing down and also reflecting off the walls and sort of bouncing on to the subject.

Antoine Bruy

Antoine Bruy

Antoine Bruy has a nature like feel and he uses the color to his advantage in the picture above you see the black and white dog sitting in the tan wheat, He uses the plain color of the dog to stand out within the tan wheat.
In the image to the left you see the color of the ground sort of a reddish brown, mixed with the green of the trees to really make the front tree to stand out, you also see the texture of the bark on the trees.

War Photographer

 The War Photographer “James Nachtwey”
By Quinn Phillips

The War Photographer film about James Nachtwey is an extremely powerful documentary. In it he shows you the struggle of war and the side you don’t always see. The pictures of people at war are absolutely mind blowing. He shows the real sorrow and heartbreak from war. His pictures are so powerful and you don’t see much like them.
From the documentary you see people killing each other and photographers in the middle of it all which I think is just absolutely crazy. We don’t see these kinds of pictures in the media today because people aren’t brave. Whenever I see his work I’m blown away. Just looking at his art makes me think why would you risk yourself for these photographs
